It was under odd circumstances that I visited Ljubljana.

I had an old friend from school who was currently living in Slovenia. Once I decided to start my trip in Eastern Europe, I immediately thought of her and decided to plan my itinerary around a three week stay with her.

A week before I was due to arrive I received an email from her cancelling all our plans.

Having been relying on her to plan my time in the country, I didn’t know anything about Slovenia and I was tempted not to go at all. However, I decided to head to Ljubljana for just a couple of days to see if I liked it.

It’s now my favourite city in Europe. By far.

Within minutes of stepping off the train, I felt at home here. The city was gorgeous, the streets and buildings were so clean, and on every street there were bands playing and bars to sit and relax at.

Here are some of my favourite photos of the city.

I’ll be revisiting Ljubljana and Slovenia for my birthday in June this year and I can’t think of a more perfect place to spend it.

What’s your favourite city in Europe?
