In exactly 3 month’s time, I will have touched down in Croatia and be eight hours into my RTW trip.
With three months to go, I feel entirely unprepared with a huge amount of things to get done in such a short amount of time. I’ve had my blog for roughly 3 months now, so to think I’m half way through the countdown is daunting, terrifying, and exciting.
The past month
So what did I do over the past month?
I made money selling Michael Jackson
I have a confession to make. I used to have an obsession with Michael Jackson. And when I say obsession, I really mean obsession! I was only of those crazy people you’d see on TV weeping over him, claiming how desperately in love they are with him, devoting their life to spreading the Jackson name… Well, I wasn’t that bad, but I was pretty close.
I bought Michael Jackson crap from eBay, the best of which being a duvet that was made in the 70’s, and had quite obviously been used for thirty years as it was so smelly and faded. I am ashamed to admit that I did indeed sleep with it on several occasions before my mum forced me to throw it out! What all of this obsessing means is that a lot of my childhood bedroom is filled with Michael Jackson junk, or “memorabilia”, but yeah, mainly just junk. However, one man’s junk is another man’s gold and all that. So in trying to sell most of my possessions before leaving for this trip I decided to list a lot of it on eBay to see if anything would come of it… I was completely astounded to discover the value of some of these items I’d been hoarding away for years! For example, a CD box set I bought for £20 just sold for £160! Due to this, March has been an extremely good month for selling – I’ve made a lot more money than I expected to and cleared the creepiness out of my room.
Happy Black Friday!
These are some of my favorite travel deals that are running over the weekend:
*Intrepid Travel are offering 20% off of all of their tours! I booked a day tour around Delhi through them this morning.
*My friend Kristin of Be My Travel Muse is offering a 20% discount on her Photo Muse Masterclass for the Black Friday weekend. Kristin is one of my favourite travel photographers, so if you've always dreamed of stepping up your photography game, this is the course for you!
*Booking.com are reducing hotel prices by as much as 40% over the weekend. Definitely worth taking a look if you've got a trip coming up!
*Lonely Planet are doing a buy one get one free deal on their guidebooks this weekend, so I'd recommend stocking up if you have any adventures booked!
*I'm offering a whopping 75% discount on my Overcome Travel Anxiety course for the entire month of November. $10 is an unbelievable price for the amount you get by signing up. If you want to travel but suffer from fear and anxiety, I'll help calm your nerves and ensure you get out there and see the world!
*G Adventures are running a 35% discount on more than 500 tours between now and Monday! G receive fantastic reviews for their tours, and offer a great way to make friends if you're travelling solo.
*If you're a relatively new travel blogger, Nomadic Matt is offering an incredible 66% discount on all of his blogging-focused courses. I've taken his Business of Blogging course and learned a fair bit, even though I'd already been blogging for five years by that point! His tips also helped noticeably increase my income.
*On the topic of travel blogging, take a look at my guide to starting a travel blog. Many of the companies mentioned in the post (Bluehost, Elegant Themes) are offering some serious discounts for Black Friday!
*Viator are offering up to 15% off their tours with the code VIA18. I use Viator to book 90% of the day trips I take, so I highly recommend seeing if there's anything that appeals. I've already booked three day tours this weekend with this code!
Other than ridding my room of my creepy childhood obsession, I haven’t done too much else. I’ve applied for a few promising temping jobs as I’ll have six weeks or so between finishing my exams and leaving for my trip, so if I can pick up lots of work instead of sitting around being lazy then that will be good.
My itinerary has changed yet again with me thinking that instead of flying from China to Australia to work for a year and then going up to SE Asia afterwards, I may instead travel from China into Vietnam and work my way through SE Asia first. As always, I won’t make any definite plans and will decide once I’m out there, but I’m leaning more towards the latter option at this point.
Over the coming month…
To be honest, I really don’t expect to achieve much over the next few weeks as I have my final exams in the middle of May (last exams of my life!) so most my time will be spent revising in preparation. Words cannot describe how excited I will be when they are finally over. I cannot wait to be officially be done with being a student.
Although my target amount for my trip looks to be unachievable at this point, I expect to have reached it and gone over by this time next month! Lots of luck has fallen my way, and I’ll soon have a huge boost to my funds!
I have an appointment next week to get my first set of travel vaccinations, which I am NOT looking forward to! Lauren and needles really do not mix. I just hope I don’t embarrass myself and pass out like that time I got my ears pierced in the middle of a shop and fell off my chair unconscious in front of screaming children! Sigh…
I’m going backpack shopping tomorrow, so I hope to finally be able to make a decision on that front. I also have £50 worth of Amazon vouchers so I will probably start using those up on little travel related items. And that’s about it!
I’m so excited!
