Going to Amsterdam was an impulse decision.
I had just completed the last ever exam of my degree and I needed to celebrate my new-found freedom. What better way to do so than to book a flight out of England and spend a few days exploring a new city?
Being Western Europe, hotels were extremely expensive so I decided to stay in a hostel for the first time in my life. Any excitement I had about this new experience wore off after the first sleepless night due to somebody snoring loudly.
Aside from the lack of sleep and the cold showers, I absolutely loved my time in Amsterdam.
I had chosen to visit at the perfect time of year. It was June, the sun was shining, the skies were blue and the beer was cold.
I spent most of my afternoons strolling around the canals, narrowly avoiding being run over by the millions of cyclists and sitting by the canal reading a book and drinking some beer.
These are some of my favourite photos from Amsterdam.
On the 14th May I’ll be avoiding the rainy season in Thailand and flying over to Europe to explore some new countries for a few months. The first stop on my Europe adventure will be Amsterdam! I’m looking forward to revisiting this wonderful city nearly a year later – I have a feeling that I’ll love it even more the second time around.

Beautiful photos Lauren! It looks like you had a lovely time in Amsterdam. I also hate cold showers, especially in Europe!:)

June is a spectacular time in Amsterdam. Spend some time in Vondelpark when you go back! It’s one of the best times of the year to be there.
